Advanced 3 – Further Steps

The course is aimed at a similar technical level to Advanced 2, but has different material and is designed for those who have completed Advanced 2, or have a wide experience of guitar playing. The hope is that the course will encourage a creative approach to guitar playing and working out your own version of songs.

Some areas covered:

• Revise keys major, minor (natural, harmonic, melodic minors)

• Revise slash chords.

• Some different chord voicings to use

• Basic chord types

• Chord extensions – 9ths, 11ths, 13ths.

• Modal versus Tonal – Modal chord progressions and songs

• ‘Foreign’ chords, parallel major/minor keys

• Chord alterations #5, b5, #9, b9

• Playing hymns on the guitar

• Gospel/jazzy chords – some Gospel type songs.

• Rhythm boot camp – Developing rhythmic control.

• 43 worship songs in a variety of styles/genres

The aim is to equip the guitarist play in a variety of musical genres – Contemporary Christian Music, Gospel, Hymns.
